There's not much to love or hate about Apres if you're youngish. You can go during the day and sample their nice selection of very decent food, or you can wait until the night time, when a formerly respectable restaurant turns into a pulsating writhing snake pit of a club.

Lichfield only has 30,000 residents, and I think all of them under 25 are to be found in Apres on a Friday or Saturday night.

The decor in Apres is very fun, with lots of nice plush red stuff, comfy couches and a really nice looking bar. There's an upstairs area with a terrace as well.

There are plenty of liquers and spirits to keep your inner Sarah Jessica Parker from droning on about Manolo Blahniks. The beer on tap isn't anything to write home about, your basic Carling and Stella varieties.

I haven't tried the wine here, so can't comment on that, but offerings look fine.

The music is expected -- no earth-shattering DJ mixes, just pulsing clubland basics, with a few nice R & B tracks and occasionally, but not for the faint of heart, a good old fashioned rock n roll track.

The crowd at Apres at night is youngish, though late 20 somethings and youngish 30s wouldn't feel out of place. Obviously, there's no age limit, but one wants to let people know what they're in for!

The bouncers are all very polite, and decked out nicely in suits, instead of polo shirts with "Buff the Biff" written on the sleeve.

If you're in Lichfield and bored out of your goard on a weekend night, try shimmying your shake n bake at Apres -- all good harmless fun.

For food, I can recommend several other places which offer nicer cuisine, although Apres is very dependable and is not likely to offend unless you're the pickiest of diners.

They are simultaneously family friendly during the day and open til 2:30am on the weekends -- impressive eclecticism, I say!

Great place to eat. Good menu too. Was better when they did money off vouchers on voucher cloud.

Apres is Apres, a bit soulless, a bit red, but a decent, central place to meet friends during the daytime and all be able to find something you fancy on the menu - the sandwiches and Nachos are great, and the sausage batons, I'm told, are brilliant.

Service can be a bit slow, but it's pretty cost effective all in all.

Evenings see various deals on pizzas and drinks, and during the evening, while not really ideal for eating, it gets really busy and much more atmospheric for people starting a night out.

Great venue for a night out, always nicely busy. Good selection of beers on draft and cool decor too.

They've got plasma screens showing the football (when it's on) and they're child-friendly too. You'll always find a handful of Mummies, Babies and Buggies in there around lunchtime

During the daytime the lunches can be great - prices tend to be pretty high vs the quality of food you receive, but the various Sausage Batons they serve are truly brilliant.

There are various offers on different days; Pizza Night, Steak Club etc - all of which are good value for money. Expect food of varying quality - I don't think I've been there consecutively and had the same quality on both occasions. Perhaps different cooks? Don't expect anything above 3/5 for food.

I tend to avoid Ares in the evening - it fills up with yuppies with drawn-on facial hair in cheap suits and girls with far too much makeup and not enough clothing to cover their pride. The amount of guys over the age of 40 is slightly daunting for most of my female friends.

Drinks are overpriced - expect to pay around the £4 mark for a pint and more for a large glass of wine. Don't expect a round of drinks to come to less than £10, even for soft drinks.

A lovely place to meet after work for drinks, good food, pizzas are lovely.

The bar has a busy atmospehere and is generally always busy. they have some excellent offer such as 2 pizzas and a bottle of wine for £15. The decor is modern and inviting, bright red comfortable seating and quiet booths to hide away in.

They seem to show most of the sports and are child friendly too.

Great stop off place in the day time, spacious, central right in the middle of Lichfield - quite a contrast to this quaint ye olde middle England town, Apres is garish, red and modern plasticy but inviting nonetheless.

Good coffee (small IS small mind you), really friendly service and lots of space (especially in the day time), non intimidating, complete mix of people from trendy looking loafers to a couple of young mums swapping baby tales over long lattes and bagels.

AND, what do you know, FREE WiFi - sit in a comfortable leather couch corner and browse away on your swish netbook, complete a Qype review or two, delete a friend on Facebook or email your Gran in Canberra.

      Great stuff, recommended.

Each time I have been in here it has been quite busy as the food is great value and tastes fab, It can get very busy at weekends as it tends to be quite a popular meeting place before going onto the other pubs in town. They have a good selection of beers and wines and the prices are quite reasonable.

I love this place! Perfect if you're shopping on your own during the day and want to retreat to a nice warm lounge/bar to have a coffee and cake, read the paper and not be disturbed. Alternatively of course you can always treat yourself to a glass of wine (or two!). Great for families too.

The decor's simple in a deep red, with lots of comfortable seating on the entrance side and the food area at the back. There are large TV screens throughout on both the first and second floors which show the sports channels.

The music can be a little repetitive, but is pleasant and I find the bar staff very helpful and friendly.

They have regular promotions on ... all their alcoholic drinks had 25% off during January and there are lots of permanent "special offers" for pizzas and beer/wine, etc.

I find their food excellent and good value. The pizzas are great and they have a daily specials board with a good example being their huge wonderful bowl of pasta with vegetables and sauce with a garlic baguette for just £4.95.

If you're a smoker, there's an under-cover area at the front entrance with tables, seating (in the summer) and ashtrays. There's also a balcony area on the top (second) floor which is open in the summer and where you can sit comfortably and view the passing public.

I heard a short while ago that Apres were in trouble financially, but presume they've been bought out as they're opening another couple of venues shortly, so they appear to have got over their troubles ... for now at least.

All in all, highly recommended and I very much look forward to my weekly visit to Lichfield's Apres!
