This should be enough. However, it's also a great place on the river to hang out.

Usually buzzy on the weekends, but not so much you can't find a seat. Prices are reasonable (£12 for a double mixer and a beer).

This is always the place that we go to after all the bars have finished serving on the weekend as it's always open late.
The decor is pleasant, and there is always banging music however it's not cheap.
A redeeming feature is that it does have a private room where you can close the door to get some peace and quiet.
They also have a good selection of wines.
I've heard good things about this place from people I know who go in the day but to be honest there are so many nice pubs in Putney that considering the 'stylish modern' feel of this establishment I'd prefer to go somewhere else less garish.

What a great transformation. Formally The M Bar, The Star & Garter is a completely different pub/bar. Now a stunning wine bar, still in a great location on the river in Putney, The S&G is a large bar over two main floors. The top floor would make a great place to hire out for a decent sized party - complete with ballroom furnishings and a dancefloor.


The bar serves a good list of cocktails and great range of wines, perfect alongside the menu which includes a good variety of cheeses.


Certainly worth a visit, don't be put off by the reputation of the previous place.

Putney has plenty of nice watering holes but I was really glad when the Star & Garter opened up. Now, I love going to pubs but once in a while it is nice to have a drink in a nice, chic area that also has a good bar menu (a big step up from a bowl of chips!). They get in a DJ on the weekends so it is a bit more bumpin' but definitely the place to go for an excellent wine selection.

The Star and Garter is a refreshingly smart wine bar next to the river away from the usual hooliganism in Putney.


Large nicely decorated interior, ideal for massive group meet ups / work do's. Ok music and pricing on the bar was more that satisfactory!
