One my favorite Chinese restaurants in London. The quality here is top notch, and the flavors are genuinely authentic to the region it says it's from. I consistently order take out from here since they are on Deliveroo, making dinner plans easy for the lazy nights in.

Like any typical Chinese restaurant the staff here are fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin but not so familiar with English. The menu is vast and holds a good variety of dishes both with Cantonese and Sichuan influences. It is nice to see that not all dishes are spicy and many have a good combination of colour and spices with vegetables immersed in with meat dishes to add flavour and texture. The portions were of a decent size; neither small nor big.
Favourites on the day included chilli octopus and sea bass in soup. On the flip side the vegetables were a tiny bit oily and the drinks were not freshly prepared with the herbal drink coming from a can and the juice tasting like it's from a carton. Nevertheless the food really hits its mark; looking good and thoroughly satisfying.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Ada C.London, United Kingdom26786036419 Feb 2016
Classic case of don't judge a book by its cover. On the outside, it looks like a typical neighbourhood Chinese eatery: bad decor, uninspired furniture, focus on takeaway. I'm sure the takeaway is true, given how many times the helmeted delivery guy came in and out but the food and service was much much better than expected.
Twice cooked pork was yummy and fabulous dolloped on top of a bowl of rice. Dried fried beef with chiles and cumin was fragrant and delicious. Cold Sichuan chicken was oily but in a good way and came paired with slivered cucumber to cool down the chiles. The only disappointment was the blanched spinach with sesame sauce, which was cloying, thick and overwhelming against the delicate greens.
Appetisers did not come out first so best to specify if you want this.
Service was friendly and helpful. Overall, a good meal, especially given that it was located on a residential street in Angel!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Aya T.London, United Kingdom183899229 Dec 2015
I felt like roast Beijing duck. But they ran out of duck menu except for stewed duck at that time.I ordered dumplings , stewed duck and pork soup. Some of them were a little bit spicy. I liked that their menu list had all pictures each which is quite helpful.
I couldn't finish it all so I asked for taking it away. I would definitely dine there again!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Steve B.London, United Kingdom20236816623 Feb 2012
Visited on a Friday evening. The place was bustling and packed so we had to wait a while for a table for four.
The menu is quite unlike your standard Chinese restaurant and is an adventure in 'Chinese' Chinese food, as opposed to 'westernised' Chinese food. Lots of colourful pictures and interesting sounding dishes. It took ages to decide what to get so to some extent it was trial and error since there was so much that was unfamiliar to me but lots of dishes that I wanted to try.
The range of dishes covers Hunanese, Sichuan, and Cantonese with the Cantonese items being more familiar and the Hunan and Sichuan items being more unusual and interesting. Lots of seafood dishes also on the menu with choice of simple preparation (black bean, ginger and spring onion etc).
I opted for stewed pork belly with preserved vegetables from the Hunan section. Thin slices of super tender and flavourful pork belly (think of bacon Chinese style but stewed rather than fried) on a bed of finely chopped and full of flavour preserved veg that had a flavour of soy with perhaps black bean / yellow bean...not sure. Sounds a bit unusual but it was great. Coupled with some garlicky choy sum and steamed rice it was perfect for me.
Since I also ate a good deal of my dining partners' dishes including the more familiar crispy duck and pancakes, dan dan noodles and beancurd dishes, I couldn't finish all of my pork belly dish but happily they boxed it up for me and made for a tasty lunch the next day.
I was so intrigued by the menu I am looking forward to going back to try more...
The waiters were friendly and the owner came over for a chat. Extra points for doing something different, achieving high standards and for going for bold and interesting dishes.Helpful 11Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Trisha H.San Francisco, United States315418624 Jul 2016
Wowza! The cumin lamb, the pork belly with preserved veggies- hands down some legit food!
Don't go for the touristy chinese food and order Kung Pao. Try their speciality Sichuan dishes.
The place is very unpretentious and the service is really good!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Amandine J.London, United Kingdom1924 Jul 2016
Good Chinese cuisine if you like spicy meals. But expensive and bad customer service.
I saw waiters refilling water at an other table but not on ours and they didn't bring the chilli sauce we asked.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Xiao W.London, United Kingdom027 Apr 2019
Chinese good food. Overall, the meal was good, but not great as I had expected. Every restaurant that designs a fancy menu full of nice pictures should at least make the food ressemble to those.

Wonderful Chinese food in Angel Islington! We asked our server for her recommendations and she suggested the fragrant chicken in a pile of chilis which was *delicious*. I was surprised that I could eat the chilis; good spice but not crazy. We also had the dry fried green beans with chilis and ground pork, and the dan dan noodles, both of which were super flavorful, I'd order everything again.
The menu is definitely more adventuresome than your average Chinese restaurant and I'm not sure I'll ever get to the "assorted meats", knuckles, intestine or snails, but it is both inspirational & aspirational that they're on the menu! And who knows, spicy fatty crunchy anything is delicious with cold beer, maybe I'll get there.
Will be back regularly for sure!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Paco H.London, United Kingdom2128211023 Oct 2015
What a great, authentic Chinese restaurant. Some of the best Chinese I've had in London. The quality of the food you get, for the prices they charge, is really good value for money.
The menu is a winner. They're serving unusual and interesting dishes. It makes me want to order something adventurous. Normally I would be a bit nervous about that, because the descriptions of the dishes don't tell me enough. But at Yipin, every dish on the menu--every appetiser, every main--has a beautiful, artistic picture. You can see what you're going to get. It takes the guesswork out of ordering authentic Chinese.
We got the spicy fungus and lotus root appetisers. Really really delicious. So much garlic and chilli (hope you like that!). They have mild dishes on the menu, but I didn't order any. I got the spicy tofu as a vegetarian dish. I loved the spiciness.
I will definitely come back here.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
